Raleigh corsa

Hi I've just stripped the paint of a Raleigh corsa 531. The serial number revealed is k8000486 does anyone have any information on this bicycle?

Well, my memory does work sometimes!

I think the Corsa was the model which replaced my Rapide - could be wrong though!!

There Is a letter w just visable in front of the k any info would be good.

W= Worksop, the Carlton factory. Where all the good (mass produced) Raleighs came from.

Closed in 1981, so after that it meant good quality but from Nottingham.

K = July

First number 8 = Year. 1978 or 1988 Boffins here will know which of those years it is based off what parts its got.

The rest is just the number proper. 486 is farly low for a big company like Raleigh. Obviously not many people fancied the corsa that year? :?

I also have a W serial# Corsa.
However, as far as I'm aware the Corsas were hand built from double butted 501 throughout, not 531. Lovelly framesets on these BTW, lively and comfortable.

501 throughout is a good tubeset, some Corsas were built with 501 maintubes only, The first year for the Corsa was 1984 (I'm sure) like mine and Oyster.

1985 saw the introduction of the Team livery.

Frame numbers: don't get too hung up on these, my Corsa is an '84 and my serial begins WK000 followed by three numbers (a very early Corsa).
