LOL

I am too old for this -
What is gimp? I know one meaning, i just hope it isn't it!!!

My local sprayer charges £100. Lacquer is £20. Paint is the other cost. Oh, and paint removal - i would get any frame sandblasted - i tried this recently £15 per frame ish.

Gimp is kind of like Photoshop but opensource (and available on Linux) http://www.gimp.org/

I'm not worried about money, thinking about rattle can. Don't know how well it would work though.
Hi Fossala, you would need etch primer, black base coat, 2 cans of the special effect top coat I linked to earlier and 2k laquer. http://www.specialistpaints.com can put these in aerosols for you and it would cost you something like £80 -£100 for the paint.
You can get a stunning result, but you have to put a fair bit of work on the preparation and building up the coats, so it can't be rushed.

OK I'm going to paint it myself come payday. Can someone tell me the best place to get the paint and what sand paper I need between coats? I'm not restoring it original, I'm thinking ivory with black lugs or black with gold lugs.

Hi, you may find this funny, but if you are painting it black, I bought some black automotive spraypaint from Poundland for £1 a can and it gave a great finish! I wouldn't recommend sanding between coats unless you get any inclusions (bits of dust usually) and then use some very fine grit - I use 2000. If you are going to laquer it you could use 2000 on the last coat of paint, but go carefully and degrease before laquer.
