Raleigh Banana wheel options

Hi all

I love my Raleigh Banana. It’s only the gas pipe model but a minter even the original chrome wheels! In the past I’ve fitted alloy wheels as they are better in the damp.

Problem I have is the rear hub on the more modern is 130mm. The space is 120mm. The rear takes a screw on freewheel and works well

I’d like to fit some deeper v rims on it but cannot find any with the correct width (120mm) hub.

Do I have to use a 120mm hub and lace it to a more modern rim or does anyone have a suggestion.

I don’t want to cold set the frame and fitting the 130mm QR set has resulted in snapped QR axles!!

The snapped axles are due to the ends not being parallel when the wider hub is fitted.

Yes, you can use an old hub with a new rim. All that's required is the same number of holes.

I used a 126mm hub (7 speed spacing) in a Banana frame with no problems if that helps.

Mine was not at all original but it was a cracking little bike, there is a build thread on here, I you are interested search Raleigh Banana or Raleigh Team Banana and it should come up.

This is where I learnt to wheel build but I will say a jig is pretty much indispensable when it comes to tensioning and truing.
