Raleigh Alaska retro-mod farm gate.

Decisions... decisions.
I didn't know whether to put this up in the 'Steel bikes' thread, or the 'Show us your blue bikes' thread, so I've wedged it firmly in here.
Built for my Mrs to bimble around on:- It's a late eighties/early nineties (unsure) Raleigh Alaska, previously owned by her brother bitd, to do his paper round on.
He was a tall child.
It's been stuck in the in-laws shed for ten years and was going to get skipped, but despite the things that wear out wearing out, the frame and forks were in remarkably good condition - no rust, minimal scuffs in the usual places (mainly the decals - that's why I removed them).
The worn out stuff was replaced with LBS bargain bin bits, canny ebay purchases, and the mighty Wiggle/CRC sales.
Currently running a 1x7 speed (42 front, 13-30 cassette, fine for the Mrs on the road)
Hope you like it :)

I had one of those, very heavy but also very tough and they ride quite well, very stable, although a little unforgiving off road, dull steel feel. Those tyres are good too, I have a set ;)

It tips the scales - as you see it in the pics - at 32lbs. Not bad considering it was 37lbs without rack, mudguards, lights, etc...*gulp*!
It does ride sweet on the road but yes it's pretty unforgiving, thanks to the plain gauge hi-tensile steel frame.
The tubing is fairly hefty as every joint is mig-welded
