Raleigh 531 SBDU 25 inch gentle fettle.

Good evening,

You should be complimented of a few things -
1. The standard of the build - it is excellent
2. The speed of the build - amazing
3. Being allowed to get the bike in the house
4. Even more amazing - being allowed to put the bike on the table

Richard

Well, yes, i did happen to notice the blatant omission. Hopefully it will be addressed promptly!

Richard

Mr History,

I have been thinking about your build - mostly the speed of it. I got a bike the week before you and i had a little time (not as much as you) to do basically the same as you have done. As you have seen in Retro Classic, I had problems with the BB fixed cup - 2 days wasted. I also fitted a new headset as the one on it was 'goosed' (Norn Irish term for not working correctly). I needed to clean more dirt off mine (much more in fact). I will be replacing the cables and tyres. The last job will be the wheels -
the spokes will need some work
one spoke needs replaced
I will probably re-grease the hubs
and get them checked by my wheelbuilder - if i am lucky, a full day will do it (more likely 2 days).

Obviously, this question has been bugging me - howcome you got yours done so quickly? The answer may tell me where i am going wrong.

Have a great weekend,

Richard

Morning Richard,

I think and gather, research a lot prior to deciding on the actual bike. This means all parts required are known and saved on watch lists etc so if I win the bike I hit about four other 'buy it nows' and everything is here for the build. (Other than pedals)

I also had a very good teacher. There have been over a dozen bikes since starting on here a year ago so....

I would say this one took about 12 hours solid over the two days. New for old on the usual sundry items made it happen that quickly.

Being off and having the head space is a real benefit too. I'm sure it makes me more efficient and better able to problem solve, with the help of those on here as in the uncharted spd territory I have entered.

Regards and thanks.

Jason.

Back from dog walk.while I've got the schils, this will not be going out until the roads around here have cleaned up a bit. It would come back looking like it doesn't deserve.

Up to the study with it until dryer weather.

Does that mean it is off the kitchen table? I would love to see my wife's face if i put a bike on the table!!!

Richard

But the bike was cleaner than a bag full of clean things otherwise me neither.

Back from 16 miles on the schils. I was right about the roads.
