WK7000080 is not from Ilkeston. It was made in the Nottingham Lightweight Unit.
Ilkeston frames always had a serial number beginning SB... , unless they were built for a particular sponsored rider when they would be stamped with his initials, the year, and the frame number of that season (e.g. JZ 80 1 Joop Zoetemelk's bike on which he won the Tour in 1980)

So what else does the number tell me?

Any advance on Nottingham. That makes me happy fir personal reasons.

Re: Raleigh 531 SBDU help with Pedal parts please

W = Worksop which Raleigh nicked from Carlton.......in 1982 I think for frames built back in Nottingham when they closed Worksop.

the 7 in third place is 1987, and the K is the month of build July.

It's a stock Nottingham Raleigh Frame built in July 1987.

Personally I would just clean it up a bit and ride it and quickly before 'Gerald' comes round to sort you out ;)

What is the front hub :?: ;)

Re: Raleigh 531 SBDU help with Pedal parts please

The wheels are odd from another bike.

Re: Raleigh 531 SBDU help with Pedal parts please

I'd go clipless. Once you get used to them, its second nature.

You might fit this as I said before, I can 'ride' a compact 56cm through to a square 60cm quite comfortable and as we are a similar size, a few tweaks should get it to fit.

The bolts for the pedals can be found in packs of SPD cleats (irony!).

Raleigh Ti colours will be perfect. I got myself an SBDU frame from the tip (where else) a few years ago and did a lot of research into these (plus a lot of help from here).

Here's my long gone Ilkeston built one:

Saddle and cage from shed, wheels, mechs and chain rings from basso. Pretty pleased with it. Decals and wax and pedals (TGR I'm counting on you ;) ) and then to ride.

Re: Raleigh 531 SBDU help with Pedal parts please

Trim the cable on the front mech for goodness sake, I thought I'd taught you better than that.

It is amazing what a good polish can accomplish.

Looking forward to hearing about your first ride.

Re: Raleigh 531 SBDU help with Pedal parts please

I should have said that none of the cables are trimmed or anything adjusted. Tired now.

What have I done to the bars then? Sean yates? That well known link provider.

Classic.

Not a private joke, you need to have watched 'Le Tour De France - The Official History 1903-2006' to understand.
