RAL Colours for Orange/White Fade Orange Clockwork

Thanks for all the posts.

I have spoken at length to a powder coating firm called Hutchcoat, who have been recommended by others on this forum and are based near York.
They have experience of powder coating bikes and have previously done two colour fades, so they will be getting the frame and forks next Saturday and have advised of a one week turn around time.

My Clockwork will be coated in RAL2004 Pure Orange fading into RAL9010 Pure White.

Pictures to follow!

Cheers,

Roger

The price I was quoted was £70, don't know if this includes VAT.
If you factor in the cost of the decals from Gil_M, you end up with a refurbished frame and forks for less than £100, and done in a week.
If you compare this to Bob Jackson who quoted £200 with a four week turnaround, it all seems to add up.

I'd be really interested to see photos of the finished frame.
If they can successfully do fades in powder coat, I reckon they could get loads of work from here.

My frame is not fades, but an abrupt change (yellow to red) so should be easier.
Not sure if I'm going to go the powdercoat route (or even a repaint, but I do need something to plug up all the bare steel)

I just need to colour match the yellow now (it's Rocky Mountains Red/Yellow, which is red and an orangey tinted yellow, as in thier logo)

I'm of to find out what colours Dupont 'imron' come in.

That's not to bad, will have to see what my father in law can do (who lives down the road) since he does classic cars he can do the normal spraying.

When I spoke to them they were happier about doing fades rather than two solid colours.
They did say that the work would not be easy but were confident about the results, otherwise I would not let them, but time will tell.

I will post up detailed pictures of the frame and forks as and when I get it back.

£70 to re-finish a frame sounds like a good deal let alone a two colour fade finish.

Here is the fade i attempted on a scrap bit of pipe as an experiment,
just used rattle cans from Halfords, the orange is VW brilliant orange
and the white is standard gloss.

For comparison heres the fade on my Clockwork, i recon there not to far apart (Orange fade is not to the standard of Klein or Fat chance fade anyway :) ).

Clockwork was painted before i got it, it seems like a decent job,
dont know who did it, the paint seems to chip quite easy though,
if i was going to do the orange and white fade on my E3 i'd go over it with enamel or acrylic laquer.
