I personally have had very few issues with radial lacing. Only once, a newly built front wheel loosened on its 2nd ride (but I hadn't re-tightened after my first ride).
I have radial lacing on the front of my MTB, and front + left rear on my commuter/old road bike. Never had any problems. I just go for front hubs designed for radial lacing (old Specialized Stout is a favorite of mine, with very stiff axle also).
Just don't do it for disc wheels!
And remember to get enough tension on the spokes.
I'd say 'go for it'!
