Radial lace front wheel?

"Stupid question but surely using a beefier hub defeats the weight savings from using a radial lacing?"
I thought it was mainly an aesthetic choice, more than a functional one.

It not about weight, if you actually work it out, it is feck all.
It's all about the look and for me the reduction in crap getting cought up in the winter.
