Racer country lastours mtb

I'm afraid it's another one of those posts. Does anyone know anything about them? It's a Racer country (Racer conception) Lastours (which is a commune in Southern France).

I picked this up from the recycling centre for a tenner just because I liked it. It's fairly lightweight so not the normal gas pipe BSO I normally get but with shimano altus its probably still low end. I don't care how much it's worth as I'm keeping it but just interested to know any info or if it's a branch off from another company. All I know is it's French and the brakes are set up for continental (left front, right rear) so guessing brought over with someone who moved here.

Thanks all.

This Altus group was sold over a few years from 95-98, just to date the bike a bit more roughly.

Ahead was by then an established standard, the used quill stem, is another reason why this should be a rather low end bike.
BTW: it even looks a bit from the picture like a 1" headset, if yes, another a bit outdated standard, maybe just used for cost saving reasons.

The condition and style looks nevertheless good.

That makes sense. Looking at the serial number I guessed '95. Wasn't sure when altus was introduced. It's got a few scars but looks better than I did at 30 🤣. It's a lovely bike to ride and for £10 I'm over the moon. Going to keep it for my local trails as been after an old rigid mountain bike again.
