Hi, I’m 5’10” and looking for a race / track bike. As far as I can make out, for my height I need a Pro XL which equates to about a 21.25” top tube. Does that sound right?

Race bikes seem thin on the ground, so buying a used one will take some time. What do I look out for?

Currently I have a Mongoose freestyle bike with a 20” top tube, it is too heavy for the track really, but I’ve been having fun on it!

A pro XL would be a good starting point for your height but bear in mind not all manufacturers have the same tt length, if second hand always ask for measurements or check manufacturer size chart.

Personally I would look for an original spec model that hadn't been raced competitively. By that I mean upgraded forks/wheels etc. There are plenty of decent enough race bikes that pop up which have been bought by older riders who found it wasn't for them and moving it on, so all still original specs with hardly any use.

I also am 5'10". I skipped right over 20" wheels and went with a 24" cruiser class BMX. Still can tear up the track, but better fit for an old man.

Mine's a 2012 Diamondback Nitrus. Only for track use since since I built a 26" singlespeed. Not really good for just riding around

I'm selling an S&M RV 24" frame - also have some SE landing gear forks and bars (both chrome) that could go with it too!
