right, I am looking for a quill stem bolt for my '95 Lava Dome as it is the only one that hasn't been replaced with a shiny new rust free example. Its an original Velocity stem and bolt.

Does anyone know where I can get one from? I have tried countless ebay vendors and even a specialist fixtures outlet where i managed to source individual bolts from, but can anyone tell me where I can get one of these bolts from, it is driving me mad! A4 stainless is preferred, but I am beginning not to care, as long as it is rust free!

I keep getting told it is a peculiar size (the bolt...), especially as it is slightly wider at the top, just before the bolt head (ok, that hasnt helped how that sounds, but you know what I mean !!)

As a thought, if anyone has any tips in rust removal, I could be persuaded to clean it up instead.

While we are on the topic of this bike, is anyone familiar with a creaky front end on Konas? mine is making a right racket going uphill, just wondered if it is a common problem or not.

thanks muchly.

Nice one, thanks! I shall be whipping it apart tonight to try and find this infernal creaking so will be sure to post a pic later on when I am back from work. It is a 1.1/8"

Its not the crank arms creaking is it. The bolts sometime work loose and cause the arms to creak under heavy pedalling.

i dont think it is the crank arms, but i will nip the bolts up later to check.

i am running the original Kona Race Light bars, but will be having that all apart and checking it all, just in case.

Post the sizes up of the bolt.

I bought 2 stainless bolts, one got left as standard, the other got modified to suit a stem.

The ridge under the head is normally a byproduct of manufacture. I found the stem bolts normally have a slightly smaller head diameter.

The modified bolt I did had the head turned down and mirror polished, I never used it so it is sat here doing nothing ....

I am just taking things apart now and all seems fine. the stem in the steerer is a bit dry, although I did grease it before I assembled it, perhaps it could be metal-on-metal making such a noise? My main concern was the integrity of the parts that could have been creaking!

Any help people can provide will be greatly received.

The rust is in the bolt socket. Call me picky, but it would be nice to have a clean one to match the rest of the bolts now
