Quick question - how to solve loose fitting headset cup??

Thanks Matt! I'll give you a shout if I can't find a quick fix, though it'll probably be quicker to pop in and pick it up....
Previous owner reckons it had had a Diatech head set in there that he had to tap out...does that prove anything about the size of it...??

It could prove that tapping it out flared the tube, or that the headset that was in there was simply a better fit than the one you want to use.i had the same issue with my titanium Torus.a Chris king would push in by hand, and whilst it would not turn much. I wasn't happy.i now have a large collection of headsets, but at the time, a member on here sent me a load he had and I guess due to the tolerances, one fitted perfectly and needed to be pressed in with a tool (a kore headset). Bought a spare one, just in case I needed it. If you want to try other headsets, let me know as I have a few now and if one fits, and I have it in the colour you want, everything is coming up Milhouse.

got a center punch? put a few punch marks into the cup's and it should give it enough extra to bite into the head tube.

Thanks Ian, as soon as I can get myself motivated I'll get out there and see what I can do with what I have, but I may well get back to you on that, think this may have to be a slightly longer term project than just this weekend... :facepalm:

'Tis 1 1/8". Think I have everything I need now to have a go at fitting the headset....it's been one of those days and nothing has been achieved! :roll:

Have to admit, not ever come across this JIS before, always thought it was just 1 1/8" ahead and that was it...
Well, headset is in, top cup needed the headset tool to get it in, and bottom cup stayed in without movement with a tiny dab of glue after everything was meticulously cleaned. (I kept it all clamped up overnight in the house :facepalm: )
What is JIS then and how would I know it was such, catalog says it's an aheadset, that's all, so no clue there. Would the French be likely to use something different? (It's a Sunn, viewtopic.php?f=21&t=304538)

Nope. The headset sizes are the one thing that's fairly standardized throughout the bike industry.(at least for higher end bikes)
But as ishaw said, there could be slight differences in the size of the cups depending on the manufacturer. If you're willing to search through a bunch of headsets I bet you could find one that fits snugger. You already glued the cup in so I would say just ride the bike as is, worst thing that can happen is premature wear on the bearings due to a misalignment. In that case you only need to switch out the headset again.
