Quick early Manitou fork question

Yes, that could be an option, I've missed out on the 1s that were on ebay now. Left it too late. So I'll keep my eye open. Hopefully a set will turn up in 1.25 if not I'll have to look at options of modifying or possibly replacing the crown,

Was thinking the same, but when I had a look at my own 1 1/4" Manitou 1 crown,it has a bulged section. Not sure if the 1" and 1 1/8" versions have this bulge?
Could be the same as as pace RC30 / 35 forks where the 1 1/4" differs from the standard.
Here's some measurements I've taken from mine to see if it possible to have a machine shop enlarge the steerer hole for your crown.

Internal diameter ~ 31.36mm
Steerer diameter ~ 31.79mm

Hope this helps?

The 1 1/4" steerer on mine is 220mm
The actual length I need is 195mm. Anyone up for a swap before I recut the threads and shorten this one?

What would be handy is measuring the outside width of crown where the steerer passes through - to see if there is more of a bulge (material) in the oem ones that take 1.1/4 and 1.1/8... if I get chance i'll check out my 1.1/8 next time im in the workshop... that way we can hopefully work out if its the same crown throughout the range and just machined out differently. I'm pretty sure the legs on the Pace are narrower gap so sadly can't use pace crowns...

Yeah. The pace crown definitely won't fit.
It was more of an example to show the 1 1/4" crowns have a bulge whereas the other sizes don't.

If the Manitou forks don't have the bulge on 1" or 1 1/8" crowns - I'd doubt you'd have enough material to machine out to 1 1/4" size.
I can measure the outside diameter from mine though.

*edit*
This pic from another thread shows the crown without the bulge. It's probably a 1" steerer.
Confirmation would be if the 1 1/8" crown has the bulge or not?

It could be simpler to have a steerer made up at 1 1/4 at the threaded and crown race end, but fit into the 1 1/8 hole in the crown. To make sure it's safe, you'd need to have a circlip slot machines into it so you can pop one in and bolt the crown tight, so tolerances will be important. Might work. I had some shocktech forks that worked this way to accommodate the 1 1/4 steerer option (iirc the threaded section may have even been a sleeve over the 1 1/8 steerer and had a pin running through the steerer as an added security measure to stop it ever coming loose).
