Hi

Thought I'd throw this one out there in my quest to solve my rubbing rear brake woes!

-What sort of flex is acceptable in a rear wheel? When I grab the wheel and push from side to side I am getting what I would say is too much flex...maybe upto 8-10mm with a fair bit of force....

Greetings;
A well built wheel with proper spoke tension should have no discernable side to side flex. I suspect your hub bearings require adjustment if it's not the spokes. Cup and cone bearings are simple to adjust, however loose sealed bearings often need replacement. Check out youtube for bearing adjustment how-to videos.
Cheers

Hi

Thanks for your thoughts but I have already checked the bearings the hubs are less than 6 months old and I'm not talking about lateral play...but actual flex within the wheel rim in relation to the hub...

I'm trying to get my head around this, is the rim old, worn and/or weak or are the spokes not tensioned properly, I still suspect the spokes!

...I guess what im getting at is what is the tension needed...in order to have the correct amount of flex or no flex...

When you grab two crossing spoke with your hand and squeeze hard you should have minimal movement. If you are new to wheel building take your wheels to your favorite lbs and let them sort it.

No not Titanium...
