Put your money where your Arse is

Retrobikers have multiple bikes, that is a given. We all have our own method of justifying them to ourselves and our partners/family/friends. I haven't got so deep in that I have given up the pretence of riding them all, but I only have three - so FAR!

To keep up the pretence I ride them all (I genuinely do and occasionally ride them all on the same day although some get ridden more than others!) I have come to the conclusion they all must have the same saddle. It is the main contact patch between rider and bike so commonality increases the chance I will pick the right bike for the ride, not the most comfortable.

On this note I have just purchased 3x new saddles and am in the process of saying goodbye to my faithfull Sella Italia Titanium (18 years service) and my cheapo Chinese sadddles on the other two bikes (neither of which were offensive in use). Good saddles aren't cheap but pile cream is riddiculously expensive which leaves me wonderring how others cope.

I have two. First choice is a charge spoon, second in an sdg bel air. Lots of trial and error and a huge pile of saddles and thankfully not a huge saddle of piles remain.

Re:

Yes. Ive gone that route, have tried to fit the same saddle on most of my bikes.

Same here. Well I try to. My fave saddle us the use carbon pro and I'm lucky wnough to have 3 of them. Mor bikes than saddles though, and some just look right with a flite. That said, the crank bros cobalt 2 I have is pretty comfy and doesn't cost the earth.

If you can find a wtb 2k they are nice too.

Re:

I prefer to make my arse mould to the saddle, quite satisfying in a sado masochistic fashion, handy if you have someone who can apply the pile cream for you though
I do prefer the thinner racier saddles though,eg Selle Italia Flite Ti, and a modern Selle Italia X1 flow.
But no, I do not have more than 1 of each saddle, I like to try different saddles on different bikes.

Re:

Having tried many over the years, I've settled ( literally  ) on Flites, Rolls and Ritchey Vector saddles.
Despite their relative differences, I have no issues with any of those

Re:

Always used the same model saddle when actually riding. I'm too old to keep adjusting to new ones.

It's funny, I got a vetta SL cromo waaay back when, Loved it (couldnt afford a Ti one at the time). SO when I got a new bike a couple of years later, first thing was to wack a SL Ti on it, loved that saddle so much, even after a huge crash when still fairly new that ripped the cover from the rails, it had a permant list ever after, still loved it. Fit my bum perfectly. Then I got a 2nd bike (manitou fs) and got a flite transalp for that... was my DH bike after all so NEEDED that transalp, never got on with it. Both had been on various bikes over the years and I just never ever got on with the flite.

Fast forward many years, when I built up my Xizang, I had bought a NOS SL Ti, but I had the flite already on a seatpost that would fit, popped it on and it was heaven, perfect... put on the SL Ti...ugh no way, horrible.

My DB apex has a Fizik...something I took off a road bike, I still have that origianl SL chromo, but it's a bit rusty, don't trust it.
Xizang has the flite transalp
Zaskar reissue had charge spoon Ti
Spark has a Scott Ti... it's quite uncomfortable with bibs, but fine with baggies (will either get replaced with a FLite Ti, or the Vetta Sl Ti I have)
Look as a Sella italia SLR Mg, would have replaced with either of the above SL or flite, but it's quite comfy so have't yet. That and I'm a bit OCD about replacing it and it not being in the exact same postion...

I'll admit, I have a real thing for Ti railed saddles.

Had a bassano years ago and found that to be good for the skinny arse brigade.

Firm and supportive  After all its the bones youre sitting on :?
