Purple Makino NJS

My daily is looking a bit crusty again and is in need of another repaint. Coupled with a promotion at work I thought I might buy myself something frivolous to swap everything over to* while it's away and scratch an NJS itch at the same time! Probably not going to be an NJS build but it might get some NJS bits.

Spec:
2015 frame
TT 54
ST 52
Kasei NiCR-MO 8630 double-butted.
Seller said Max fork, but I think it's Kasei Evolution 2.

Tube specs:

Frame weight 1628g
Fork weight 700g (it's hench)

I was struggling to find a headset where the seller could confirm it was fully JIS-sized, so I ordered one from Japan and then promptly forgot which one I’d ordered. Had a nice surprise when this turned up!

I used my Mk2 headset press to squeeze the cups in:

I need to sort out a front brake and the only hitch is that the rear axle is 8mm diameter with 110mm spacing. I wasn’t originally intending to go the full Dura Ace wheelset route, which can take an 8mm axle, so I may be butchering the axle in my current wheels. 110mm spacing on these is in fact 114mm so that riders can use chain tugs, so a 120mm wheel slips in quite easily.

Hi @Jonny69 ! Registered an account just to comment that this is a great find and since I'm trying to build something similar, this really helps with idea. How has your built and ride impression been? Do you have updated pictures of full bike? Thanks!

Slightly embarrassingly I still haven’t got around to building it up. Main holdup has been the wheels because I haven’t decided whether I’m going to flatten the axles on my current wheels, which will render them useless in a 10mm dropout, or to splash out on a set of NJS wheels (££££££). Plus I haven’t measured up yet to see what I can do about a brake.

Well the thing with these track frames is as nice as they are, they're not that versatile to build with arent they....

Good to hear that the whole rig is not that far off 2kg. I was gonna build up a (quite smaller) custom with these steels so maybe I will closer...And btw, is it more purple in real life? Looks quite dark blue to me.
