PSA - Replica 1-1/8" Chris King headsets

Just add the word “repro” or reproduction and suddenly it’s all ok ……
A difference would be if the original was no longer available, or even out of copyright, but the overlap is massive.

They aren't really "repro" if they carry branding they aren't licensed to use.

I purchased a pair of fake pauls levers a bit ago purely to see what they were like. They actually looked the part but you could tell by the pivots and the general feel.

Sold them onto a mate who wanted them. I couldn’t fit fake parts to a bike personally
Steer well clear of shimano chains, that includes eBay and Amazon also. Fake ones are awful but the packaging is convincing

I totally agree with the second bit. My point was that it seems to be accepted to sell fakes when it suits.

Yep and pretty much anything Shimano to be honest.

The chains were discussed on another thread a bit ago too. I tend to buy from proper online shops to be honest as it’s not worth the hassle for a relatively cheap parts.

I also think that many people are assuming 12 spd chains are fake as they are so damn noisy after a few miles. Nothing like 7-11 speed which lasted ages and were silent.

do you think RB should take a stronger line on preventing the promotion of non- genuine components?

Maybe the mods have checked the legality? Maybe it's not a grey area?

Surely everyone must realise that China copy just about anything in the world and AliExpress lists things that are cheap because they are fakes !!!!! If anyone buys something from there that they think is genuine then I have no sympathy for them. It's cheap for a reason !

Yes I’ve said on a couple of occasions that I don’t understand why fake items are allowed to be sold on here. Especially since when I last checked the rules it says no commercial sales too.

I’ve no issue with items which help solve an issue or have no branding like headshok boots. But the blatant copies shouldn’t be allowed which display a logo or unique design (Ringle skewers / Syncros posts etc)

Nonsense. 12spd chains outlast anything 9/10/11spd by some margin. I'm at about 2000km per SRAM Eagle chain whereas 11spd Shimano was 1000km before they were done. Silent too. 8spd was great, yes, but I think that's because the whole system had the ability to cope with things being worn without feeling baggy. It certainly didn't last any longer though from a wear perspective in my experience.

Without wishing this thread to descend into the same state as the previous one, I think there is a vast difference between a reproduction of something which is no longer manufactured or where the manufacturer doesn't even exist, and rip off of something which is still for sale; this headset is the latter. The latter is illegal while the first one only bothers people who wish to gatekeep the fact some stuff is rare and are worried they're going to lose out on value for their own stash of rare parts. C

I'll happily admit that I have looked for the link for these fakes as while I don't wish to support China, and I don't agree with things being passed off as something they're not, I equally have zero interest in paying for a genuine CK headset on a bike I'm never going to ride, and I certainly wouldn't pass it off to someone else as genuine (or even sell it). Is that a moral contradiction? Yep.

nonsense back at you.

I’m currently running 2 lots of Shimano 12 speed , 1 Shimano 11 speed , 1 sram 11 speed and 1 sram 12 speed on my daily bikes.

12 speed Shimano becomes noisy after 500 miles. And are worn by 3000 miles.

11 speed Shimano remained quiet all the way through it’s life and lasted 4000 miles a chain.

I’m still on the original chain on my XX1 AXS due to not using it much now. So can’t comment on it.

SRAM 11 speed is on 2k miles but is winter only so will likely be changed soon. Not noisy though.
