Back from Powder Coat
For the sum of £50 I got the frame, forks and some other part powder coated or blasted at
Moto-Coat. I originally asked for the frame to be in 2 colours as per the 1991 bikes, but sadly the masking that they used was having a detrimental effect on the other colour. So in the end I decided to get everything done in gloss white and use this as a base to work from. Which is a good thing as the new finish has highlighted the frames imperfections, thus I can now fill them with body filler and achieve a nice smooth finish. The frame will then be painted in the 1991 style of 2 colours.
Whilst at the powder coaters I got a few extra parts blasted or finished in powder coat. I have plans for these to be either polished or painted.
Decals
I originally planned to paint on the ‘ripped’ effect decals, but figured this would be a very difficult thing to achieve. So I got some tracing paper and felt tips and copied the graphics from my old 1991 cro-mega DX.
Ultimately I got these traces from doing this:
I then scanned them into my PC and used the ‘paint’ application to colour them in. This is what I achieved:

Down Tube:
Rear Stays:
I then sent these off to Gil, who is currently turning them into decals. Gil had already been busy though, creating these decals for the project.
Think it will quite a while before I can get them fitted to the frame, as the work needed to the frame in terms of filling, priming and painting is rather large. You now know as much as I do
