Thanks. I have always used a single 42 on the front. Not many alpine descents where I live, so never felt the need to change to a 52. Thought "What's the point in lugging this front mech and chainring round when I never use it?" - so off it went.
I'm going to offer the Biopace rings that came on this bike for sale shortly.
Well I'm calling time on this project. I applied some non original decals as well as my 2200 shifters with a cable stop. I guess this is not really a vintage restoration! It's definitely a modern set up on a retro frame - but horses for courses and all that.
Went out a nice run this evening and loved every second. This bike rides so well and I love the extra comfort that the frame provides Vs my alloy bike. I'm also very happy with the overall look of the bike - it definitely got some looks from other cyclists this evening.
The new internal cam skewer held the rear wheel in place so no issues which is great.
There are some touch ups I need to do with the paint - the most noticable of which is the mark left by the front derailleur (I didn't apply a protective film). But a bike is never really finished
Next up, I'm going to do a SS build on my alloy frame. You can see a glimpse of it in one of these photos and I'm planning on the rear stays being a brushed aluminium finish. More to come on that.
After that I'm going to do an actual vintage restoration - staying true to original components etc
After that who knows!
A few pictures to finish off the thread, and thanks to everyone for their advice and kind comments!
