I'm after some project 2 forks for my kona 1994 kilauea ..are the model specific?I assume i would need 19inch ones to go with my frame size..

From memory a 19" frame would need 163mm steerer (assuming it's a threaded set up). I think 1994 would mean an a-c of 420mm, also from (slightly more sketchy) memory.

Have a look in the catalogue section for the the full specs

Re: Project 2 Fork

I have a Triple Butted Project 2 fork, freshly powder coated black with original decal from Gil M yet to be applied. They were my original forks from my 95 Explosif. So threaded steerer and right A-C length. Check out my post in the for sale section or pm for me details. I also have the matching velocity stem for sale too. :D

Re:

Correct me if I am wrong but between 1994 - 1998 all Kona's used an a-c of 410mm threaded. I believe my frame is a 18", not that it makes any difference. I swapped to a Bomber 2 fork using the same A-C length.

Re:

I doubt they'd still be threaded in '98, although I do recall Kona hanging on longer than most to convert. Quick look at the catalogues would tell for certain though.

A-c on a bomber I would guess to be 450-470mm, I did have a massive table of nearly all fork lengths that was very useful, will have to dig it out. Could well be 410mm for P2s though; I bought a tb set on chuck-out in a local shop in late '97 (for twenty quid! :D ) and they measure about 413mm (1 1/8" unthreaded, for the record), which I guess is classed as 410...

Re:

As for frame size, the headtube length changes, so there are different steerer lengths of P2. 18" & 19" are both 163mm, 17" is 143mm.

Re:

In '94 there was 20mm difference between the headtubes of 18" & 19" frames. The 17" & 18" frames both have a head tube length of 110mm, the 19" frame had a head tube length of 130mm. Length of the steerer tube you need will also depend on the headset your using. 130mm for the headtube length of a 19" frame plus the stack height of your headset and you'll have your required steerer tube length :D
