I'm about £3000 down*

Dont tell the missus!

*since 2007, but probably just about even if tip finds are taken into account

That's not too bad over a period of several years, there are far more expensive (and less fun) "hobbies" out there.

That's the only way to look at it, plus it's a cardio work out.

The buyer massaged me a while later

Let it go, let it go..........

Which bit of you did he massage to get that response?

I've no problem with people picking up bikes going cheap on ebay and then splitting them for a profit. Its when they try to offload the bike/parts on here that pisses me off and some are pretty blatant about it. If you want to profit from this site then pay a few quid to the Guvnor and become a site sponsor, otherwise you're just a parasite in my eyes.

Then you have the ones who buy say a frame on here for £100 posted. A few weeks later its back up for sale with "frames too small so I'm letting it go for what I paid. £120 which covers my postage costs and the petrol for the trip to the post office." Do these people have no shame?

Re:

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.I sold a part in decent nick to a guy for a fair price and within a week he had it up for sale for 30% extra as a nos part that he had for years reluctant sale blah blah. Its pretty low but then again thats the way of the world, some people just dont give a sh1t.Dont dwell on it.

Always the way , sell to "good " people for mates rates
Then up it goes for a profit
Alternatively , the buyer winge's about some little detail to get compo from you
Then sells it on bodged , mis represented , etc

I don't sell anything these days

Re:

It does happen, as I've said I've been a victim of it but let's be honest it's not the norm, it's an occasional thing from a minority of people.

Let it go, it's not worth the stress of worrying and it's certainly not worth letting a few peoe taint your experiences, which at least for me have been overwhelmingly positive as both a buyer and seller amongst one of the best retro communities around.

Re:

This is a simple system that has been going on for 1000's of years. You have something to sell. You name a price, if the buyer accepts he/she is happy to pay the price. If they are not happy, then pm an offer, if rejected, you walk away. Done. There is no law in sales and cannot condone people doing so. If there is a market willing to purchase, they will. If its too expensive they won't, unless you are not sensible......however that's your/my problem.
