Nothing like going through the For Sale section with your morning coffee looking for a part you need and finding parts you sold for $x with international shipping being sold for £x with domestic shipping. As much as I dislike Ebay........

I've bought and then sold stuff here, hopefully no-one thinks I'm trying to make a profit from it... To be honest, there's easier ways to make a living...

Usually it's because it looked right at the time and I then found it wasn't quite what I was after (my electric bike was a nightmare for bits that wouldn't quite fit as intended), or because plans changed, or because it's a cheap way of trying something out... I've got all sorts of stuff here that I've never even unwrapped, and I might never use (look fournales forks spring to mind... ), and may well end up back on the for sale forum...

The fact is that a part is worth what someone is willing to pay for it at the time. Value and desirability goes up as well as down, and I'm afraid to say that a lot of people won't buy internationally, making a part availabke domestically a bit more desirable. Sometimes, this is down to trust, but mostly it's because international usually equals a massive pain in the arse to go and collect it from a parcel depot miles from home, followed by a customs and excise bill that adds an undetermined and often random amount to the cost that you never know until you pick it up. This usually ends up adding another 30ish % to whatever you paid for the item (including shipping), just for tax.

By the time that's all paid $x usually = £x, if you're lucky...

Sir sir!

I've been given a hell of a lot of stuff over the years and I've tried to be even handed. I've sold a lot as cheap as possible or given it away for postage only. Some has gone on to help during financial difficulties but I've always tried to give it back when I got back on my feet.

If someone makes a few quid from me, I'm not too bothered, that's usually why have sold it on anyway.

There are the obvious profiteers out there , but I've found most to be very reasonable on the site.
It seems to be eBay where most of the money makers are trying , my eyes did water when there was a GT flip flop stem on the bay for 75 quid  .

GSB, retire your avatar in shame for that response & replace it with Ron Weasley

I am exceedingly happy to report I had to google "Ron Weasley"...

Re:

Personally, as a rule of thumb I always use the USD price *number* as a rough guesstimate of the final *number* price I'll end up paying in GBP once the duty, VAT, and handling charges are paid. It's never far off as a rule of thumb and I've been importing stuff for donkeys years.
