President Trump!

I actually think that the very character trait that made Trump's rhetoric so un-pleasant during the campaign could lead him to be a less dangerous POTUS that you'd think.

Yes he is a power hungry narcissist, this made him say what he needed to to scared white folks to get them to vote for him. Including, bizarrely 52% of white women who voted.
but now he has to retain power. The adulation & applause will not be from the crowd anymore but from the corridors of power. These people will have a huge sway on the stupid and vain. There are West Wing staff who could intellectually box Trump whilst they do the crossword at the same time.

He lied to get in, now in he will be far less radical than we expect.

I can imagine a lot of Federal laws being devolved to States. This gets the heat off him.
This also puts the Senators in a much stronger position and protects him electorally.

A nation wide ban on abortion would cause mayhem. Devolve it. Abortion becomes legal in Colorado & Massachusetts, Illegal in Nebraska and South Carolina.

A Nation wide legalisation of Marijuana would be a disaster. It is already allowed in some states. Devolve it. Texas and Ohio can ban it. California and Washington (state) can legalise it.

Every one then likes Trump, as Trump allows states more freedom.

Plus, if you think your taxes are too high, don't call Trump! Call the Governor and protest the State House!

A lot of this rings true, or at least probable. If there is one thing we do know about Trump, it's that he desperately wants to be adored, and passing the buck to the states would help him deflect some of the heat he is going to get when he has to start making hard, unpopular choices.

We're already seeing him slide away from some of the red meat positions that got him elected and he is going to bring in a lot of GOP establishment people to help him with the economic and defense policies. So, on that front his presidency may not be turn out to be quite as combustible as many people have anticipated. It will probably be a lot more status quo than his working class supporters would like, and it will be interesting to see how long it takes them to figure that out.

I suspect the only policies he really cares about are related to the media. When he says he wants to make it easier to sue the press, I believe him. If he brings Peter Thiel on board, look out.

Ultimately, I expect he will still get lots of pushback on his policies as he begins to enact the Republican agenda of deconstructing the social safety net and privatizing pretty much everything, but I don't see the Dems going the impeachment route unless he does something really over the top. In fact, I think it's more likely he gets impeached by his own party, but he would have to become really, really toxic for that to happen.

I concur. Which would mean Pence gets to implement his agenda, and that ain't gonna be pretty.

There is an American comedian called Dave Chapelle. He is deadpan and also happens to be black, he sometimes does a Donald and sometimes says rude words and sometimes is not politically correct, so be warned.

On his return to SNL over the last few days he gave his thoughts

I will be interested to see if it comes out that Farage had been chatting with senior Tories.

Why on earth would they not consult with him? You ideally do what is in the interest of the people, as well as your party.

If he has the ear of Trump, get in there!

There have been no real surprises so far in Trump's post victory rhetoric.

Sure, he is adamant he will deport lots of immigrants. They have to be confirmed criminals though. That is a big exception.

He rowed back on jailing Clinton, and does not seem to wish to carry through with promises of appointing an investigator into her practises.

He accepts his 'wall' may actually be some fence, (I would imagine, given the logistics, a fence system would be effective).

He is not firming up plans to prevent Muslims travelling to the US, it seems for now at least.

He may keep some of Obamacare, but improve it.

Not bad really, only a few days in and he isn't in charge until January.

Seems he is not so bad.

Of course he has. For all the rhetoric politicians are pragmatic (well Corbyn isn't but were talking Tories here). There was dialogue during the referendum, the Tories let Farage do the dirty bits they didn't fancy and they got to stick to their lines.

Did he not talk about illegal immigrants? Who by definition are criminals?

I don't understand the outcry on this at all. If you have unemployed Americans and illegal immigrants the solution is pretty obvious even to the most ardent lefty. Obama has been booting out illegals his whole time.

BTW if anyone wants a laugh check Owen Jones latest Youtube diary. Surprised he doesn't cry tbh. We're all doomed.

Owen Jones is a fun size Jeremy Corbyn. But without the charisma.

I think him & his ilk are as bad on one extreme as their counterparts on the extreme right.

Re:

Owen Jones is a miserable rent a twat. You can barely find a panel in a political debate he isn't barging into. Besides, he blocked me on Twitter.

Techno, Trump is waiting until he has built his wall to turn his swivel eyes to the bulk of the illegal immigrants, whom I would imagine will be given amnesty. Meanwhile he is after the bad ones.

We ought to do the same here.

Re:

I saw Owen Jones do a drama queen strop off sky news paper review programme, it was the funniest thing I've seen in ages. He could out flounce Nikki from big brother

Corbyn has the charisma of a multiply used tea bag.
