Pre 1997 date, how did that come about

It really is not. My own cut year is 1998. But I would love to see the love for old mountain bikes to gather around one site, than to spread to different forums. The hype of vintage mountain bikes has declined after corona years, and will continue to do so, as we are getting older. It would be wonderful (to me) if younger generations would find their place at here (somewhere else than the general 98+ subforum) when they start to build their teen dreams of say 98...08 bikes in the coming years. Otherwise, I think this forum will practically die in about ten years. Would be shame.

I was 16 in the year 2000. So I certainly spent many years riding the bikes of the era you are talking about. I still wouldn’t class these as retro. Mid skool I believe is the term bmx guys use.

Covid certainly got new people involved in the hobby but that was likely due to more spare time and boredom. The hobby is now back to pre covid. Many of the groups I’m part of are growing daily.

Im getting to the stage where I wish my curiosity hadn't asked this question as there seems to be an undercurrent of disagreement in opinions due to my rather naive question.

Please folks just accept that your opinions might not align with others and move on without strife...

I received my answer that there is no correct answer except what the owner decided and based on the rest of the answer supporting this it seems logical.
My question wasn't about whether moderns where welcome because Im sure the admin will say all who ride or want to ride are welcome here and surely that should be enough for us.
If the admin decides to add sub forums in the future he will or won't as the case may be but please stop picking on each others opinions and replies as you are destroying an innocent curious question with your own agendas here.

Im reporting my own post (this one) to the mods and asking them to close this thread as it has served it's purpose.

Thank you to all who helped me to understand the changes over the years that I wasn't on the scene, your kindness in education won't be forgotten.

Yes, and like I said, there are differing opinions on what a retro bike is. You have a view that anything beyond a fixed point in time is retro and everything after that is modern and not to be discussed, even if the oldest of those bikes is closer to the inception of MTB than it is the current age, and others, like me, have the idea that it's a fluid marker based on age from the current date. A 1997 Zaskar in 2007 when I joined fitted into the current retro category, and yet you're saying that a twenty year old bike in the present day isn't retro?

It's better to be curious, and ask questions. Than not. Your question was relevant, and that's why it pops up every now and then. Untill there is change, or not.

End of the day, lots of people here own and ride modern bikes too.
