I loved them until I used spd's, then always used them .... though as a commuter I the passing years, always just used trainers/shoes on a pair of Onza Ho's without any clips.
Now they're back out I would probably get them for a commuter... if they where a lot cheaper than they are
Don't know what the re-released versions are like though.
So the answers are (as with most things like this)
They are Ace
They are ok
They are crap
depends who you are and what you like you're just going to have to try them.
i used them on my first mtb and have them on my commuter now. i really like them but SPDs are better. so i prefer SPDs on the trails and powergrips for commuting because i can nearly use any shoes.
they are not expensive so give 'em a try.
Started using them in the early 90's when spds were very new and had a restricted amount of float. Used spds in the summer but back then winter shoes that took cleats were pretty rare, and I didn't like the way the cleats transfered the cold through the shoe.
Still use Power Grips as I like platform type pedals, find them comfortable, grippy enough for general xc riding, and useable with any kind of shoe.
The current ones aren't the same heavy duty material as the originals and tend to deform quite easily making sliding into them that bit more difficult, especially when wet. This is not a good thing when launching into an instantly demanding technical section.
The only way to know if you'll take to them is try them.
