powdercoat prices please

I should have noted that I radiused all the edges etc and smoothed around the welds and steerer tube etc It allows the stuff to flow over edges better but probably also makes it look a little thicker than it is in reality :D

Anybody ever had a day-Glo colour with powder coat?

Yes - http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... in&start=0

But the pictures seem to have gone missing :? You may want to contact him though as I think he has had some issues with it since :-(

WD :D

I had a tip-rescue DB Topanga frame (see link in my sig) stripped and powdercoated by these guys in Bristol:

£75 including some substantial frame repairs due to corrosion. Very pleased with the job but had to clean excess coating from some of the threads etc. Gravy Monster has also had some nice work done by them - I think they can do special colours/metallics etc.

Click my Stumpy link to compare with Argos stove-enamel. Expensive but worth it if the bike is a long-term keeper.

Yep I am now a converted Fan of the powder coat, Purley on price and the robustness of it, I had prevous powercoating experiences which I thought were great until I went to Reality in above linky and hopefully as you can see the quaility is amazing. There are two types of powdercoaters, Industrial garden furniture type and high quality specialist. The cheaper style is prone to fade and does not have the sheen of the better quality coaters.

Both of these have a metal flake laquer which in the sun looks stunning.

1992 Saracen Conquest in Sulphur Yellow with Metal Flake, For some reason it does not photo very well but its very bright as any one who has seen it will confirm

Got my frame and forks back and they look like new, A little annoyed that sone pow over spray made it into the BB shell but that was dealt with easily enough as it wasn't a lot.

Very pleased with the job for £30 frame and forks and I'll be sticking up build photos on here once I've got them from my friends camera.

Gravy what was the price of those two jobs? I'm in the rpocess of trying out a new powdercoater and I'm going to ask if they will do fades.

Did you have options on the flake colours?

I've had a frame done for £30 and forks done for £20 before, quality good/ middling.

I just had an old Raleigh done... Descaling Services in Levenshulme blasted frame, forks, mudguards, chainguard and rack for £40 and SprayQuick in Reddish/Bredbury p/coated the same parts single colour for £40. I had to do prep in between blasting and coating tho... they seemed happy I had prep'd threads etc. I used a coke can and wired it over the steerer thread, some old bolts for mudguard threads and old cups for the BB (with more coke can to prevent it entering BB shell). Finish not mega glossy (it never is with p/c) but damn thick. They did miss a tiny bit on one of the lugs, but I'm still happy.
