having just weighed up the full cost of paint, primer, laquer & paper for my resto project i can't help but feel that for a touch more cash I could get a powdercoat on the frame & forks rather than a rattlecan finish with the obvious benefits of longevity and scratch resistance.

could anyone who has recently had a re-finish (and if they don't mind saying) let me know where and how much a single colour powdercoat was.

ideally north mids / manchester area as i would rather take it and collect in person rather than relying on the postal system.

Hi bud, had a Cdale f&f powdercoated the other week cost me £50 + vat frame White and forks black.
Also had a Marin frame coated grey and the forks, stem and bar coated orange for £65 all in but that was before the vat went up.
Both frames were down at a place in Redditch.

My Clockwork frame cost £57. They did everything for that, including removing old paint etc. I think the colour I went for was a little bit more expensive then the basic ones. Very good job and a few others on the site have used the same company. Maybe a bit far for you but if you fancy a drive out have a look at Triple S in Bingley, West Yorks.

People on the site have had a powder coat done for about about £30 but not sure what the quality was like.

I've had several frames and forks stripped and coated for £30 or less each time by a local powder coater.
The quality and turnaround was excellent, as he already knew a bit about bikes and what to mask off etc.

Sadly though he had to close his business over a year ago due to the economic climate, not helped perhaps by his bargain prices.

It's a shame as he was only 5 minutes walk from my house and a great, trustworthy bloke too.

Taking my Kona to a place on friday that was recommended on here for strip and frame and forks in seperate colours. £30 apparently and i'm told they do a good job and know what to mask and threads to protect etc.

It is steel though so can take a bit more abuse in the strip than an alu frame with paper tubes so I guess if thats your base you'd need to ask more questions.

Getting my saracen done shortly and they are doing frame forks and stem for £60, including masking it all off well and blasting it. I know they do a superb job so happy to pay that and long lasting.

Frame and forks and stem blasted and powdercoated white (it's not a Kona though  ) for £65 at Keep Powdercoating in Uckfield. On a rating I'd give it a 7.5 to 8. Bit patchy here and there but pretty happy overall.

Stripped myself and was charged £35 for frame and forks in a colour they were already running at the same time.

I think the place would charge £10 extra for a specific colour.

Spraytech in Harlow.

Hey, just had a ball park quote for £50 for:

"To blast ,zinc prime, top coat and lacquer you are looking at 50 total."

Aurora in Hants.

I'm a bit confused. I had a frame powder coated (£30 by a firm in digbeth birmingham) and I didn't like the finish. The 'paint' seemed to be really think and had a plastic feel to it.
