Calling all you mailers of metal and rubber.

Theres a chance that I may be offering some bikes up for sale in the near future. Obviously I would like to reach as wide a market as possible so will be looking towards packing them up and sending them on their merry way.

Having never done it before, I am curious as to the easiest and most cost effective way of achieving this.

If you can offer some words of wisdom on the matter I will be forever in your debt.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Bike boxes can be had from your local lbs or big retailer. I use paisley freight for full bikes and myhermes for wheels and smaller parts. The post office is a bit more competitive of late.

Pack for impacts!

Senditnow.com via parcelforce I've used quite a bit.... Think it works out about twelve quid so it's cheap.

I've used paisley and Hermes before.

With any, as said, pack for impact...they WILL throw them about!!!

Re:

Yeh it took me a while I was paying about twenty with paisley... Think there is another thread on this pinged in the road for sale section....

Another for senditnow.com Mine normally go around £15 and as mentioned they go by parcel force but at what seems a cheaper rate than parcel force. I normally collect the bike boxes from the local bike shops as they seem to keep them longer than places like Halfords. Try and get the larger size framed boxes but medium will be okay too.

Normally they are big enough to just take off the front wheel, pedals and seat post and then turn the bars sideways so minimal build at the other end. If selling on Ebay then I tend to advertise postage around £25.

A good tip is to place a wooden block between the dropouts and fork legs if you remove the wheels that is to stop them from being bent or damaged...

Re:

Another +1 for senditnow.com

About £13 odd for 48 hour delivery and only another couple of quid for 24 hours. £100 insurance included and you can increase this for a reasonable charge.

The only thing to aware of is that yes, it's a Parcelforce service, but it is their budget service and they do sub out the collection/delivery based on (I assume) location and how busy they are sometimes - so your bike could end up in Yodel's hands (no judging here, good or bad!)
