Post 31/12/1999 Music that doesn't suck!

Inspired by the pre-millenium thread, there is still music out there that appeals to some of us of advancing years....
.

I've always been into 'Heavy-Rock', 'Hard-Rock' & 'Classic Rock' - (despite my 'love' of ABBA, which I've just posted, in another thread 😖

May come as 'no surprise' that I've always viewed the mighty Dave Grohl as THE musical 'second-coming' - (excuse any blasphemous slant !)

That Man, Dave Grohl, for me, could do "no wrong" between 1996 thru to 2005 - (& perhaps, even beyond, to the "Wasting Light" era)

I could choose (at least) a dozen-tracks that would fit the bill, but I'll link just two...

In fact, that AMAZING double album that they released, back in 2005, was a God-damn "masterpiece" in my view.

The album was/is called "In Your Honor" (note American-spelling) & is just a cornoucpia of GREAT music.

One half (first half of the double-album), is "Heavy" - whereas the 2nd half (of the double-album), is far softer AND accoustic.

Amazingly, I'd already bought the album, "In Your Honor" during it's first week or release......

But, like many new albums, you listen to them slowly, gradually - As a double-album is clearly 'a lot' to take-in, when fresh/new

So, imagine my surprise, when I hear this GREAT track, on BBC's "Match of the Day" football highlights.....

Only to find that I've already bought it (numpty !) - It WAS featured regularly on "Match of the Day"s goal segments

"D.O.A" (2005) - Foo Fighters - Taken from the double-album, "In Your Honor"

The 2nd track that I'll add is A LOT softer & I believe is set to a 'bossa-nova' dance-move pace - It's BRILLIANT

It's a duet between both Dave Grohl AND Ravi Shankar's daughter, Nora Jones - (Ravi Shankar played with The Beatles, for you old-'uns

Such a 'major-league' contrast between the TWO types of different music, featured by the same album/artist, from the year 2005

Stunned the first time I heard this… my favourite Joy Division track reinvented by James Blake… I reckon Ian Curtis would have approved 😎

Well there’s no accounting for taste! 😂

^It's good but i much preferred Russ Abbott's rendition of Atmosphere

Don't laugh - Back in spring 1988, I went round my "in-laws" for Sunday Roast dinner, only to find.....

" ***** (me), we've got FOUR tickets to the BBC TV centre, as audience to go see RUSS ABBOTT's "Christmas Special" being filmed"

I'm like - "F.F.S - Ain't much keen on Russ Abbott, don't mean him any harm or else, he just ain't my cup of tea, that's all...."

"Besides, what on EARTH are they doing, filming a forthcoming Dec' Xmas-special, when it's only just inside April for ?"

"Christmas is like another 10 x Eons away, like, late December - Que ?"

Long story short - I got 'bullied/badgered/cajoled' into going by the pretty-wife AND the in-laws..."

Figured, "Ahhh well, at least I get to see/go-inside the famous BBC TV-centre AND see how filming's done, w/LIVE audience"

Around EXACT same time-period, I was about to buy another bike (Suzuki GS.1000) in addtion to my 1,000cc Kawasaki

Main & major memory of that coach-trip down there, is of my Wife's badgering/domineering Mother (My Mother in Law's Gob)

"What DO you want another bloody bike for ? YOU'VE ONLY GOT ONE AR$E" - Jeeeez, I got proper earache !

Despite her "incessant nagging", I bought the damn bike anyways 🥰

Mother-in-Laws can 'go shove it', when a natural-born Alpha Dominant Son-in-Law gets his own way (prior to kids, too)

I still have THAT self-same bike to this day, thankfully - one of my best ever investments, that now is slowly increasing (in value).

But every time (now), someone mentions that (ghastly) Russ Abbott record, it takes me back to THAT prolonged coach trip (& her Gob)
