Possible new bike

Hi, sorry, it was a rather rushed question.

I think it's a pro am 12, couldn't find out much about it apart from a 531 frame, with suntour components and weinmann brakes. the selller claims it is totally original in good condition, just the usual rust patches.

I wonder if anyone knows much about these? I read somewhere on the web that they were originally worth £300, but that seems an awful lot for the 80's?

No that sounds about right on the price, the Raleigh Team Replica was about £400 which was top of the 'off the peg' range at the time.

I think the Carlton Pro-am was launched for the 1978 harrogate bike show along with the revamped corsair (which they said was a demi-course) and would have sold for about £150 ot r their abouts.

Over the next few years it would have acquired 12 speed instead of 10 LOL

I don't know much about bikes, i currently use a peugeot tour-5 with slightly buckled wheels, so anything would be am improvement.

Looking at getting a Carlton pro am 12 for around £60, worth it?

thanks

I think buying old bikes is a bit like buying art - it's only worth as much as you want it.

I'd go and have a look, see if it fits and is not a pile of scrap and go on your gut instincts from there.
