Even sadder has been the recent enclosure and obliteration of the Dartmoor sections of the 93 racetrack (probably due to the expansion of china clay mining), which really cuts down the options for getting up onto the moors via off-road trails from Plympton.

I havent ridden that area since 98, how far south does the china clay mine now extend please?

Except for the public road, the entire moorland area extending west from Newnham Park's edge, up until the summit (level with the 'tabletop' at the head of the 'downhill course'), has been fenced off; the track that used to run from the cattle grid that entered this parcel of land from the south, up to the summit, has been turned into a very flat and unsurfaced road for giant dumper trucks; some new (not very nice) bridleways have been added running east-west at the Northern and Southern edges of the enclosed land; the china clay works have encroached roughly a few hundred metres west and south, but not enough to reach the walled farm fields.

my first races were at newnham, loved it there and only lived up the hill in eggbuckland. went to the grundigs, raced in the 7up bmbf races and really regret not keeping my race plates etc, still got the grundig booklet somewhere though, got it signed bu a few at the race and at bike96? at olympia. the sound and speed of tomac, baker et al still runs through my thoughts when riding through trees fast, loved it back then!!!

The chainstays are trademark Schwinn / Paramount. No idea who actually made them though.

Anyone have the Mountain Biker mag with the write-up of this Grundig? I've lost mine  and inside is a pic and a short text about me and my mate winning the trip to stay with the Ritchey/Schwinn team. Would be great if someone could scan it (in colour).
Should be somewhere in the first 20 pages

Re:

Lucky enough to have been taken to the race in 1993 as a 13 year old, did not realise the significance of it at the time. My mate's dad took us down, as my friend was heavily into mountain biking, I did not have a clue but enjoyed the experience, he even managed to bump into that tinker chap, I embarrassingly was not any of the wiser, but my friend was very excited!!
