Good to see some nostalgic memorabilia.
I was there that day, my parents dropped me off & I even bumped into friends I didnt know would be there. The weather was amazing & it's possibly been one of the best days I can remember.

and some more...

I was at that race, epic times :)
Tomacs riding the 3D built "experimental" frame.
I will always remember Tomac flying down that single track to the Quarry, the noise of the disc drive and the way he just flicked the bike sideways through the gate without putting a foot down :D total legend

One of the best XC race courses I've seen / ridden, such a shame Grundig got the event moved to a country with more growth potential for their products. Parts of the course were among the mainstay routes of my MTB rides throughout the 90s and into the noughties - mostly the Dartmoor sections (which fed us into several nice trails going out to the higher moorland areas), but also the descent after the singletrack and, (by trespassing) the off camber descent and the pipeline.

Sadly, nowadays Newnham Park doesn't seem to get summer races (but there is a mudfest called the Soggy Bottom series during winter). Even sadder has been the recent enclosure and obliteration of the Dartmoor sections of the 93 racetrack (probably due to the expansion of china clay mining), which really cuts down the options for getting up onto the moors via off-road trails from Plympton.

I havent ridden that area since 98, how far south does the china clay mine now extend please?
