Planet X Ultegra deal £1000

Re:

I was tempted with the cf cyclocross but I've got a couple of options for off road biking.

It is 'old' Ultegra but I much prefer that to new for 2 reasons:

11 speed is just daft. Totally unnecessary.

Have you seen the ugly four-bolt Ultegra chainset? Hideous!

I don't find any of Shimano's road chainsets particularly pretty, but you can customise the build of their own brand bikes: https://www.planetx.co.uk/help/bikes-built-to-order

There's only a few options available via the on-line ordering process, but it might be worth phoning them to see if you can customise things further.

I like the look of the CF cyclocross bike as well, but I'm not so keen on the saddle and wheels and wondered if you could order it without. :?

Mate of mine tried to do that with an R58 as he had wheels and crank he wanted to fit. They wouldn't sell him a bike without them, but that was through cycle to work so they may be more flexible if you're paying out right.

The chainset isn't Ultegra on the Planet X one though. Everything else is but not the chainset and yes it is 10 speed.

...and that's why I bought it! Don't like the Ultegra chainset. What I *do* like is being able to spec 170mm crank (for shorty old me) and 34t inner ring (for lazy old me).

Also the brakes are sub-105 set but I'm hoping that someone might get me some of those natty forged Planet X ones for my birthday.

Re:

I have one of these and it's great. Extremely light and flies up the hills with ease (even more so when I get on this after riding my exped bike loaded with 4 panniers!).

The only downside is the fork is perhaps a little flexy if you're out of the saddle and cranking it hard, so the bike doesn't feel as 'planted' as some. But at the price it's really rather a good package. If you go with one of the big names instead you'll get an alloy frame and 105 if you're lucky at that price. Oh and the wheels will probably be surprisingly good and light - I replaced mine with some deep section wheels but kept the stock ones for windy days.

Service in the shop is top notch in my experience. If you can get up to Rotherham it's well worth it - their clothing section is staggeringly cheap - every time I go I leave with an armful of kit. :xmas-wink:

You could also consider Ribble, who have some v nice bikes and similar deals, but their customer service def does not get good reviews.
