Planet X Ultegra deal £1000

What's the general opinion of Planet X bikes? I'm tempted by this on the Cyclescheme. Don't worry - I know about the £100 'admin fee' but even with that it's a cracking deal -Ultegra on a carbon bike for £1000. I think the wheels are a bit pants but a mate is offering me some Spin wheels as an upgrade...

Am selling my 2010 Superlight, which I'm happy with, but which has SRAM Rival - and I cannot stand Doubletap shifting any more! Whoever thought of that should be shot... it's awful.

My wife loves hers but she has only had it a month, mate at work also has one and rides a lot of road and is impressed. Cannot give a long term review sadly but seems well put together to be honest.

Re:

It's a cheap, mass-produced carbon frame. But that shouldn't put you off at all. Carbon frames have come a long way in the past few years and a cheap one now will usually be every bit as good as one costing thousands a few years back.

Looks like a great deal :D

Re:

If my employer was currently doing the Cycle to Work scheme, I'd be all over one of these.

Next time they run it, I'll be straight onto the Planet X website to see what else they've got. A grand (well, £1100) for that spec on a carbon frame is superb.

I was looking at one myself, it does look a great deal and gets good reviews. Couple of things to possibly consider: I think it's the older Ultegra being 10sp; secondly planet-x/on-one don't appear to has the greatest reputation going off what's said on some of the forums.

I've gone towards looking at 105 spec (still 10sp) bikes from the likes of Trek. Better warranty reputation etc. Think the Boardman's will be cheap but still have a good support network if something does go wrong.

Re:

Couple of guys at work have carbon framed bike from them and they're great bikes for the money. They both went into the shop though, and although one had some issues initially, I've got to say they they seem to have had good service face to face.

I've been eyeing up their CF cyclocross bikes.

Re:

I was tempted with the cf cyclocross but I've got a couple of options for off road biking.

It is 'old' Ultegra but I much prefer that to new for 2 reasons:

11 speed is just daft. Totally unnecessary.

Have you seen the ugly four-bolt Ultegra chainset? Hideous!

The chainset isn't Ultegra on the Planet X one though. Everything else is but not the chainset and yes it is 10 speed.
