Retro Guru
Hi,
I’d like to share my latest project: a Pinarello Montello Team Reynolds, which was allegedly ridden by Samuel Cabrera in the 1986 Tour de France (he finished 11th). I found it in pretty rough condition. I initially tried to polish the paint, but it was too far gone, so I stripped it down to full chrome.
I sourced a few period-correct parts that were missing (note this is just before the Delta brake era), overhauled it, cleaned and greased everything, and replaced the hard-to-find SU cones (gotta keep it original!). I also ordered red decals, managed to reproduce the bike ribbon handlebar tape decals, and finished it off with a new chain. I paired a Regina Synchro 12-32 cassette with a Shimano XT rear derailleur, which lets me ride uphill comfortably.
I was tempted to go for a neo-retro build, but here it is, (almost) back to its original spec. Hope you like the pics!
