Picking up a Dawes Galaxy this afternoon

Picking up, local (ish) a Dawes Galaxy this afternoon. In good working order, (apparently), a small 50cm frame which will suit my height 5' 3'' with a new set of tyres on it. £100 , so I am happy to pay that. Obviously I plan to add mud guards and a rear rack and will change the bar tape. Anyone have any links regarding suitable chrome mud guards. Thanks for any help, cheers Mike

Nice find and a good price (at least for where I live). I like that era of mountain bike drive train on touring bikes - works well and very flexible in updating to more modern standards if desired.

Soma Fabrication and Velo Orange in the US sell very beautiful metal bike fenders. I would check out Spa Cycles in the UK for someone a bit closer.

FWIW, I tried some velo orange zeppelin fenders on a commuter bike and the bike hanging system at work really messed them up. I finally replaced them with plastic fenders because they are just so bomb proof. You can get plastic ones in silver (SKS I think has some) so that might be an option for you if you are more interested in a metal colour than actual metal fenders.

Thanks for the reply, had a few hours on it since yesterday,, its a really comfortable ride, and the downshifters take me right back to my teenage years in the 1970's, I think your right regarding the fenders/ mud guards.
