Photographers Speak To Me! Nikon D2x

I have been swapping through a number of cameras, but I settled on the D700 for a carry always camera. Worked out well so far, and I am not using a 'sealed' lens.

Now I am looking around at the later full frame models, but I wonder if I really need to upgrade.

I don't tend to print large.

I am a Luddite when it comes to cameras. I use an ancient Nikon F and FE2 most of the time, along with a couple of large and medium format occasionally.

Been waiting for medium format digital to get down to my price, sub £1000, but meanwhile I have been dabbling with some Canon DSLRs and have enjoyed the results.

I have lots of old Nikon glass, so I am now looking at a D2x, but then I have had a shot of a D200 and they are sweet as. Anyone using these two? The D200 seems a no brainer, it has all the seals which make it suitable for packing light for expeditions, and it works with most older lenses. The D2x has better AF which is good to have in hand for some bird photography. Plus it is a veritable tank, just like the old F.

I guess I might end up with both, if I can't put the money together for the D800.

Whoop whoop! Nearly two grand though, that would mean selling a lot of the lenses I would want to use it with!

I've currently got 4 D2's in various states of repair, beautiful cameras to work on and use, but can I make a suggestion of a D300 instead!

Superior to both the D2 and D200's, don't bother with the D300s though, as there's nothing really better on it versus the D300.

With regard to megapixels, unless you're going to be printing out huge posters, then anything up to 10 megapixels or so is fine

I am only looking at full frame Nikons thanks to my lenses. Perfectly happy with the D700 but it is well past the limit for the shutter so, unless the replacement cost has magically gotten cheaper, I am thinking about killing two birds with one stone and moving forwards. The alternatives seem to be a compromise though, or just too great a leap.

I've heard great things about the Sony A6000 range of cameras, I saw a YouTube video that a photographer had made where he'd ditched al of his Nikon DSLR's in favour of one of those

I made a decision to stay with Nikon, though of course a lot of my old lenses can be used with adapters.

My Pajero belonged to a chap who worked at the Nikon factory. Had his pass stuck on the sunblind.

Nikon till I die. The the next generation will inherit them all.

I think it has a lot to do with the emotional side of things too. The first camera I ever used was a Nikon. My grandfather's F. I still have it, but it is in bits right now. For that reason alone, and all the iconic images of Nikon in use in Vietnam, African safari and so on I feel bound to them.

So I'll probably have an Olympus next year.

I have stripped it down and have the service manual. So it will end up going to Ffordes..
