Peugeot Explorer

Retro Newbie
This is my first bikebuilding topic on this retrobike forum.
Recently bought an old Peugeot Explorer mountainbike in Eindhoven ( yes, i'm dutch ).
All parts were completely gone. It was the frame and fork that I was interested in.
I wanted to build it up from scratch, and make it a custom bike with retro look, but also build up with modern parts. And 1 x9.
I started with a new paintjob for the frame and fork. Color is waterblue. Decalls are white.
Bought a secondhand Ultegra crank with 2 chainrings from which I only wanted to use the small chainring.
Bottom bracket is a Shimano octalink.
Pedals are modern eggbeater 2 pedals.
Brake levers a nice cnc-ed alu levers. Only available in black, so they were deanodized.
Wheelset I build up with a set of deore hubs, and Mavic XM319 rims.
Tires: Kenda small block eight 2.35". 2.35 is about the biggest size that will fit in the rear fork.
Saddle is a Brooks B17 brown.. Grips are Brooks, also brown color.
Also did some adjustments on the fork, so I could use a normal headset instead of a threaded one. Fork is extender with a 1" extender. Because I wanted to use a 1 1/8" stem, I needed 1" to 1 1/8" shims. These are custom made, thanks to my friend Joop.
Derailleur: Sram 9 speed dual.
Sprocket:Sram 970 cassette.
Shifter: Sram 9 speed dual trigger.
Chain: KMC X9

I agree with the big cheese ^^^^^^
Where's the like button as that is a beauty of a build you've done.
The whole thing just looks/sits right, everything is easy on the eye and looks functional.
I must say its not the usual sort of build I would be interested in but it looks like it would fly through town.
Love the colour as well, did you paint it yourself?

Hi Jamie,

Yes, I did paint it myself. My first paintjob ever on a frame and fork.
Also the first wheelset I did build.
Both jobs went well, but took some time of course, since I have no experience in painting and wheelbuilding.
And your right, it really flies :D

Looks soo good, as mentioned above it looks really easy on the eye and functional. Really like this!

I've been waiting to re-spray a bike for a while now and this is only making it harder not to!!
