Peugeot Comete Sprint

Welcome to RB and the Peugeot looks tidy.

grandad owning a bike shop

This will be of interest to some people here. There is usually someone who will remember the shop or have bought stuff there. Sometimes someone will have a shopfront photo which is always cool to see.

If you are comfortable sharing details; please tell us more.

Ohh, I had one of those back in the day and it was lots of fu: Very light (for the time) and quick but a little flexy.

As others have said, change the brakes as the weinmann’s were not great. Peugeot also did a version with all Japanese kit so old Shimano exage or 105 would do the job. If you are happy with the brake levers keep them but be aware that they will not work as well as something more modern.

I used to rum 20mm tyres at 120psi but it was the 1980s and I was young and foolish. If 25mm tyres fit I’d go with those.

The rear is 126mm spacing so you will have to stick with 6 or 7 speed gearing. If the bike has the original sachs aris gears they are a good early indexed system. The heliomatic hub needs a special tool but they are not hard to find.

If you keep it, enjoy the ride!
