peugeot alpina

well I can officially say I think Im addicted to bikes. After selling a few of my old ones to make space for non-bike stuff I said I wouldn't buy any more bikes. (just bought an old Giant GSR400 for winter riding to replace my old stonebreaker and said that would be my last)

well it was.....for about 2 weeks  until I saw this a few miles up the road from me. The ad just called it a peugeot bike but upon collecting it its an alpina model and after doing some research its actually older than I thought, about 1988? (someone correct me if Im wrong). well put a cheeky last minute bid on it after watching it for a week and ended up winning it for 99p!!! I know it needs work but I have all the parts here so wont cost me any more. and I just love the old forks shape. basically I couldn't help bidding because something about it made me fall in love with it.

will be a keeper for certain. only just picked it up so the ebay pic will have to do for now but will get some better pics tomorrow.

It is a 1988 Alpina. My brother had one of these.

It wasn't a particularly well specced bike. Gas pipe tubing, steel rims and 15 non indexed Sachs Huret gears.
I had a similarly bad Peugeot Ranger.

Non of that really mattered when you were 14 years old though.

this one has 18 gears and alloy rims :? but is sachs huret non indexed.

it was sat in a hedge for several months hence the rust but the magnalloy frame is actually in pretty good condition considering. needs new tyres, chain and cables which I have anyway but need to find some more friction shifters as the mounts have broken. Im not worried about the spec side of it because its the budget bikes I collect and it's only for out riding on backroads and light trails.

will try and get some more pics later today after Ive had a little play with it. will be keeping it for a while for just a casual sunday rider. I like a variety so with the Giant's better spec for everyday riding and my Marin for the offroad action, it's nice to have something a little more relaxed pace.

hell for 99p it was worth a gamble.
