Pets

Cats are wonderful.

They are, they are also complete Asshats.

We have 2 cats. Love them both. Especially when they bring frogs, mice, rats, bats, slowworms, Moles and birds into bed at night.

Their finest work has involved (on separate occasions) the following;
A scarf (not belonging to us).
A live moorhen.
A baby pigeon.
The other baby pigeon 20 mins later.
A third baby pigeon 20 mins later (pigeon only have 2 squabs, and the third was clearly from a different clutch)
An uncooked pork chop, Again, followed by another unkooked pork chop 5 mins later (cat was swiftly locked in for the evening; we assume our neighbours went hungry).

I didn’t know frogs could squeal until the cat started bringing them home to play with!
He usually eats what he catches and leaves us to deal with the bits he doesn’t want. Though I think his hunting days are over, he mostly spends his time between his feeder and the last warm spot he found.
I once saw him catch a pigeon mid flight having jumped from the top of the fence and plucked it out of the air.

Ha, Peggy laughs at rain. That's no excuse not to go out.

A couple of weeks ago I had to fish Peggy out of the canal.

It was dark and there was a splash behind me. I ran back and shone my torch (unlit towpath) following the ripples to see Peggy proudly swimming with the left wing of a pigeon in her mouth. The poor bird was desperately flapping the other wing trying to escape but unfortunately was done for.

The drop from the towpath to the water was over a metre and I couldn't reach her. So I had to cajole and encourage her to follow me until I found a point where I could reach.

Fortunately I carry a walking stick which after several attempts managed to slip under her harness just enough to lift her high enough to grab hold, which was bloody difficult with the torch in the other hand, and I nearly fell in a couple of times - the canal where I am is commercial and up to 10ft deep in places. I think she eventually realised there was a problem as she was starting to struggle and she finally let go of the pigeon.

Close call. My dog's a nutter.
