Peeling lacquer/clear coat

Hi all,

As the title states, I have an issue with the lacquer on my Dynatech Diablo; I am absolutely GUTTED!

I live in Hull, and I wondered; does anyone know if there's a bike paint shop nearby? Is it going to be an expensive do? Is it worth it in your opinion?

Just wanted to keep it as pristine as possible, for as long as I could.

The colour is very cool, it's such a shame!

Not only is this on the top tube, but it is on the down tube too; I think it's just going to be a thing all over! This bike is 30+ years old... It's just an absolutely belting bit of kit!

I will try to reply as best I can; however, I'm a teacher and in my classroom there is NO mobile phone signal whatsoever. Most importantly, I'm also a father of two; there is no room for mobile phones with two raging kids awake 😂

Thanks all!

Finish is expensive im afraid - and I can't think of a localised repair to this, apart from a period-appropriate sticker, like VANS or something🤣

Of course that's how it was done in the day. Almost any bike I looked at with stickers had paint damage underneath.

You could carefully mask or micro-mask around the lacquer then touch it up with a clear lacquer spray but bear in mind if the bond between the existing lacquer and what it's adhered to has deteriorated, you could remove more of the existing lacquer with the tape.. alternatively you could try touch up with a steady hand/brush then polish but whichever route ain't going to look perfect, getting it done properly will mean an expensive respray.

Haha, stickers it is! God damn it.

I've not got the dexterity and careful hand to do this. Well, it looks like it's getting a clean and a polish, and then brandished with stickers!
