Pedal size/ gearing on my banana

I have a raleigh team banana I wish to change the pedals what size thread is it as I want to buy from eBay found some with 9/16th thread will they be ok also want to change the gear cassette as I don't have a low enough gear for all the hills around me what should I be looking for thanks

You will have a freewheel not a cassette on a bike of that age. Probably.no idera what sizes you have or what rear mech etc is fitted. How about a pic?
