Pearson Racing bike. 60s or 70s

Pearson Racing bike Reynolds 531. Shimano Dropouts. No Down tube Bosses. Wheel size 27x1 1/4. Serial number 4240. Do want to repair the bike and get it back on the road. Difficult to pin down year so be gratefull for advise 60s or 70s.

Over bb cable guides, cut out lugs, TT cable guides, long dropouts puts in in the 70's rather than the 60's.

The Reynolds decal is wrong and too early.

Would agree that it’s early 70s. The over bottom bracket cable guides and lack of braze-ons were typical of early 70s.

Don't know about Pearson, but top tube cable guides only came into fashion in de late seventies, as did brazed-on bottle cage mounts. In the early eighties the shifter cables disappeared under the BB shell.

I'd put this frame within a couple of years from 1980, which jibes with what looks to be the Reynolds decal:

My '80s Pearson road bike has similar cable guides and 700c wheels, so I'd also agree with the 'within a couple of years of 1980' based on the 27x1 1/4 wheels.

Pearson's were a Raleigh dealer and also made or had made their own frames for their 'top end bikes'. My Pearson badged bike has a WL prefixed frame number WL8xxxxx which I believe indicates it was made by the Raleigh Lightweight Unit in Nottingham.

It might be worth comparing the frame pictured to Raleigh models from the late '70s and early '80s.
