I've use them with both V and Canti', similar feel at the lever, the gear cable is slack like that, as chain was on middle ring and I just moved the thumby back out the way, to illustrate more of the brake lever I think the newer versions are less brake type specific, unlike the older Mk 1 version.

Would look at swaps/px for some tidy 7/8 speed thumby's, nice Canti arms, retro saddle (Flite/Avocet/Turbo lite, Wtb SST-Ti etc) or consider anything else interesting. PM me with what you have?
