Posted on 17th December, Parcelforce Customs charge letter arrived this morning - charge is £70.37 (£10.56 Import Duty, £51.81 VAT plus the stupid Parcelforce Clearance Fee of £.
The package is part of a 17 year old bike (no forks, wheels, saddle, chain etc) that is being sent free of charge so how on earth bthey come up with these figures I don't know (and yes, I have seen the Customs website with all the details). Of course I'll pay it but it still seems to be a ridiculous amount - it seems that HM Customs values old bikes at a higher rate than we do!
But then I (or someone else) needs to wait in all day because it's impossible to speak with anyone to arrange an alternative delivery address and if there's no one in they will take the parcel back to the 'local' depot which is 35 miles away.
Bah!
