panniers on a GT hardtail

thanks for the replies guys - it seems like p-clips on the seat stays is probably the way to go. The only snag is that I am running an A2Z disc brake adaptor which obscures the tapped holes for the lower mounting point. I might have to bite the bullet and get a disc specific rack or the tubus adaptor skewer - could have done without the extra expense.

Mind you I have also thought about trying to get a cheap GT Steel hard tail off e-bay that would have the correct braze-ons and mounting points. Any excuse to expand the fleet :)

I used p clips further up the stays and curved the bottoms of a cheap rack to compensate, on the disc side I used a longer pannier bolt with a section of copper 8mm radiator pipe to take it out past the calliper.

Total botch but free, It made the rack higher but that was a benefit in heel clearance.

My disk mount is a similar size to the a2z one, the p-clip sat just above it....

For P clips, best choice in size (so can mount where you want on stays), best quality and best rubber inserts to be found with those intended for "custom" engine bays. Loads of choice on th' 'bay Motors.
