Cool thread! Any chance of a photo of said boat? So we have an idea of what sort of style to go for.

Any idea of colour scheme? Traditional canal boat style, or modern?

I can't stand soppy boat names like "Silver Salmon" etc

My racing sailing boats have been:

Overdraught
Superdraught
Frantic Frog
Red Nightmare (International Moth, wouldn't even float upright at rest)
Snowy (White FRP, Tintin Graphics along the side)
Double Expresso (twin wire Catamaran)
Gusto

If you've ever seen the psychedelic camo schemes on Fanatic windsurfers around 1988-89, that might be a good idea...gets away from all that geraniums in pots thing about narrowboats.

I hope you are aware that by changing the boats name you are asking for big trouble

well known fact its unlucky to change its name, quite a few including some big liners and cargo ships have gone down in mysterious circumstances after a move like that

Just thought id let you know ;)

Changed the names on mine, Snowy won 9 races out of 10 starts...

..yeah, you are right, unlucky...

But don't whatever you do paint them green, that is unlucky.

Always thought Fat Chance would be a good boat name.

Quite boringly, I thought I'd tell you where that comes from.

BITD, when all ships were made of wood, if one was to be renamed, a carpenter would have to take a chisel and carve the old name out, and carve a new one in in its place, the result of which was a hull that was not as sound structurally as it was before.

It is quite cool, actually. But Malliard of Joy it is. I might name the canoe Yo Eddy if I have enough leftover paint (did I say my mate found it dragged into some bushes with the stickers removed?).
