PAINFUL IMAGES ATTACHED: The Dyna Death

Dirt Disciple
Well i finally got hold of some images of my beloved Dyna Tech MT4 which gave up the ghost about 3/4 years back after what can only be described as a hard life.

I got the bike from a friend back in 97 ish and it had been in a few guises, painted team colours, then green and white before going back to its original colour scheme.

It was raced hard, rode harder and eventually died one feb day coming down the llanberis path on Snowdon, the rocky section just after the hut.

Im not sure why i was smiling, if it wasnt for the down routed cables i wouldnt have looked like i do now, ugly still but a hell of a lot more scarred. and thank god the XTR cables and mechs helt together when it went as i was in the air, landed and it felt like i was on a full bounce.

It snapped where a retro fitting of crud catcher bolts had been installed by Caygill who painted it years ago, guess it just weakened it sufficiently to give. Amazingly the bonding never went which was commonly the case. Even more awazingly it held for me to roll back to the car!

Id love another and have just picked up a mission frame but its not the same, too big and not an MT4 so if anyone wants to seel me one id be oner the moon!

Here goes

The crud bolt does look like a bit of stress raiser – especially when you see a frame brokeen like that

I have done that path on rigid frame and forks - much fun :D

WD :D

SJS cycles is selling Ti tubes on Ebay.
I know nothing about this, but is there any way you could do a repair?

stick an old seat post inside the tube and gaffer tape it all up - should be fine after that. :)

could you not replace the tubes (top and down for good measure). If they were bonded in... there should be some sort of release agent available.

Oh its long gone, not even sure what happened to it, somewhere between moving house i imagine

Crikey...serious failure

Note to oneself not to try and retro fit crud catcher bosses/bolts!

I did that to rented Trek on the Slickrock at Moab in 1995, with a similar (ie: fortunate to escape with my face) outcome.

On a side note, cracking punnage.
